A familiar face in the central Ohio legal field will sit as the new Franklin County Municipal Court judge starting July 27.

Gov. John Kasich appointed Sean V. McCarthy, who most recently served as a judge on the Franklin County Common Pleas Court until the remainder of an unexpired term ended on July 1.

McCarthy replaces Judge David C. Young, who last November was elected to the Franklin County Common Pleas Court. McCarthy must win in this November’s general election to retain the municipal court seat for the remainder of the unexpired term, which ends Jan. 1, 2018.

McCarthy received his bachelor’s degree from Loyola University Chicago and his master’s degree from The Ohio State University. He received his law degree from Capital University. Besides serving as a judge in Franklin County, McCarthy has also worked in various positions in the Franklin County Prosecutor’s Office. McCarthy was admitted to the practice of law in Ohio on Nov. 20, 2000.
