A state legislator from North Ridgeville will soon be taking on the role of judge in the Ninth District Court of Appeals.

State Sen. Nathan H. Manning was appointed to the bench by Gov. Mike DeWine. On Aug. 3, Manning will take the seat vacated by Judge Donna J. Carr, who retired. After serving the remainder of her term, Manning must run for election in November 2026 to retain the seat.

Manning is grateful for his appointment and looks forward to continuing his service to Ohio in this new role. 

“I will work diligently to uphold the high standard Judge Carr set for the court during her tenure,” he said.

As a state senator, Manning represented District 13 in the Ohio Senate, which includes all of Lorain County and portions of Huron County. He has served as the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee since 2019.

Manning also owns Manning Law, formerly known as Manning & Manning Attorneys at Law, which he opened in 2008 with his sister, Allison.

After opening the law firm, Manning served as a prosecutor for the city of North Ridgeville from 2012 until 2014. In 2015, he was elected to represent Ohio’s 55th District in the Ohio House of Representatives, which includes portions of Lorain County.

Manning is a 2004 graduate of Denison University, where he majored in political science. He went on to earn his Juris Doctor from Capital University Law School in 2007.
