Register Now: Evening Tours at the Supreme Court
Mark your calendars! The Supreme Court is taking part in this year’s Ohio Open Doors after-hours program, with four evening tours available on September 10 and September 12. The tours are part of the Ohio History Connection’s annual event featuring tours of historic buildings and fascinating places across the state.
The Supreme Court of Ohio is housed in the iconic Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center which was completed in 1933 and served as the Ohio Departments of State Building for nearly 70 years. The building, which is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places, was renovated and repurposed in 2004 as the “forever home” and headquarters of Ohio’s judiciary.
“Since its renovation 20 years ago, visitors have come away from their tour of the Moyer Judicial Center saying, “What an unexpected delight!” said Doug Stein, Civic Education and Outreach manager. “The Supreme Court is easily one of the most photographed, inspirational, and historic buildings in the state.”
The awe-inspiring interior features a convergence of Art-Deco styling and Beaux-Arts architecture, which gives the building the look and feel of a palace with museum quality finishes. The artwork and fixtures in the Grand Concourse and Courtroom make it a one-of-a-kind Ohio landmark.
