Attorney Registration Opens On July 1

Ohio attorneys can get a jump on registering for the next two-year period when registration opens on July 1. By rule, Ohio attorneys must register with the Supreme Court of Ohio’s Attorney Services Section on or before the first day of September in each odd-numbered year.
Starting July 1, attorneys can begin registering for the 2025-2027 biennium online at the Attorney Portal. The Ohio attorney registration process must be completed online and includes an electronic bar license, which can be stored on an attorney’s phone for easy access or printed out as needed. Cards will be issued via email.
The registration fee for active, corporate, and military spouse attorneys is now $450. Fees can be paid at the time of registration via card or ACH. Attorneys can also have their registration paid by an employer or another party through the agency billing feature.
Agency billing is available after an attorney registration is submitted. Those opting for agency billing will see their registration marked as “pending” until payment is made. An attorney is not fully registered with the Supreme Court of Ohio Attorney Services Section until payment of registration fees has been completed.
New Features for the 2025-2027 Biennium
New to the registration process this year is the voluntary option for attorneys to list if they are multilingual. This information is publicly available and can serve as a resource for those seeking the services of attorneys who speak multiple languages.
Also, for the 2025-2027 biennium and every subsequent biennium, attorneys engaged in the private practice of law who do not have professional liability insurance must either take the Office of Disciplinary Counsel’s free Proactive Management-Based Regulation (PMBR) course or obtain professional liability insurance. See Gov.Bar R. VI(1)(B) to determine if you are required to take the PMBR course. For more information about PMBR, contact the Office of Disciplinary Counsel at pmbr@odc.ohio.gov.
Registration for the biennium ends at 11:59 p.m. EST on Sept. 1, 2025. For more information, contact the Attorney Services Section at (614) 387-9320 or attyreg@sc.ohio.gov.
