Ohio sees 72% passage rate on July bar exam.

The Supreme Court of Ohio has released results from the July 2025 Ohio Bar Examination.

A total of 967 aspiring attorneys took the exam, and 693 – or 72% – passed. There was a total of 815 first-time examinees who took the exam, and 648 examinees (80%) received a passing score. July applicants represented 62 of Ohio’s 88 counties and an additional 22 states.

Those who meet all requirements will be sworn in as attorneys during two special sessions of the Supreme Court on Nov. 17. Sorted by law schools, newly admitted attorneys will take their oaths at either 10:30 a.m. or 2 p.m. at the Palace Theatre in Columbus. Both Bar Admissions ceremonies will be live-streamed on the Supreme Court website.

Following the ceremony, the new attorneys and their guests are invited to the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center. The Ohio State Bar Association will host a reception in the Grand Concourse, including food, complimentary headshots, and photos inside the courtroom in front of the bench.

The Supreme Court Registration and Continuing Legal Education Section will have information on attorney registration, new lawyer training, and the Supreme Court Lawyer to Lawyer Mentoring Program.

The following organizations will also be present to answer questions from new attorneys:

  • Supreme Court of Ohio Law Library
  • Office of Disciplinary Counsel
  • Ohio Board of Professional Conduct
  • Lawyers’ Fund for Client Protection
  • Ohio Access to Justice Foundation

The bar exam is administered twice a year by the Court, which regulates the practice of law in Ohio, including the admission of new attorneys, the biennial registration of current attorneys, attorney discipline in cases of misconduct, and the administration of continuing legal education.
