The Supreme Court celebrates the extraordinary women who broke barriers in the legal field during the grand opening of the Women in Law Exhibit.

The Supreme Court of Ohio proudly unveiled its new Women in Law exhibit today, a tribute to the extraordinary women who have shaped Ohio’s legal history and inspired future generations of lawyers. The exhibit, located in the Visitor Education Center of the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center, highlights the impact trailblazing women have made on Ohio’s legal system.

Chief Justice Sharon L. Kennedy reflected on the significance of the exhibit and the legacy of the women it honors.

"The Women in Law exhibit is more than a collection of stories; it is a testament to the power of perseverance, courage, and vision. It honors the women who broke barriers, challenged conventions, and redefined what is possible—not just for themselves, but for all who would follow in their footsteps,” said Chief Justice Kennedy. “Their achievements encourage young women to dream bigger, to see themselves in roles of leadership and influence, and to believe in their ability to create meaningful change in their communities and beyond."

Chief Justice Kennedy also acknowledged the presence of several former Justices of the Supreme Court of Ohio, including Evelyn Lundberg Stratton, Yvette McGee Brown, Judith
L. French, Mary DeGenaro, and Melody J. Stewart, whose contributions have left an indelible mark on Ohio’s legal landscape.

Visitors of the exhibit will learn not only of the women justices who made a mark on the Supreme Court, but also of the first women admitted to the bar, those first elected to local judgeships, and those who rose to the highest positions in the Ohio Attorney General’s Office.

The Women in Law exhibit is made possible through a grant from the Ohio State Bar Foundation and is part of the Court’s America 250 celebration highlighting pioneering women who’ve contributed to the nation’s evolving justice system. The exhibit joins other educational displays in the Visitor Education Center, including Careers in Law, Tuskegee Airmen: Portraits in Courage, and Justices in Uniform.

The Supreme Court invites the public to explore the exhibit and be inspired by the stories of these remarkable women. For more information or to schedule a tour, please contact the Civic Education Office at CourtTours@sc.ohio.gov or call 614.387.9223.
