The Ohio Center for Law-Related Education (OCLRE) recently named its 2025 winner of the Lori Urogdy Eiler Award for Mock Trial Coaching Excellence.
This year’s recipient is Jason Johnson, a teacher and mock trial advisor at Warren High School in Washington County. He was presented with the award during OCLRE’s annual conference at the Supreme Court of Ohio.
Johnson was nominated for his dedication to his team, his students, and his school.
“Mr. Johnson has extensive knowledge about mock trial and life, which he shares generously,” his students wrote in their nomination form. “Mr. Johnson does not limit students in the slightest. He shows an outstanding amount of care and commitment to every student. He believes in every student's potential and pushes everyone to be their best.”
The award is named in honor of Lori Urogdy Eiler, a retired teacher and former mock trial advisor at Shaw High School in East Cleveland. According to OCLRE, recipients can be mock trial teachers, legal advisors, volunteers, or administrators who demonstrate dedication and selflessness by offering their time, knowledge, and skills to make a difference in the lives of students.
OCLRE’s mission is to improve society by developing citizens who are empowered with an understanding of our democratic system. The Supreme Court is a sponsor of OCLRE and hosts Mock Trial and Moot Court competitions annually.
