Seats of Justice: Ashtabula County Courthouse

The next stop on the tour of Ohio’s county courthouses takes viewers to the most northeastern point in Ohio, Ashtabula County

The largest Ohio county in land mass, Ashtabula County was founded in 1810. The first courthouse was built in the county seat of Jefferson in 1811, but burned to the ground in a fire in 1850. Today, the courthouse is home to the County Commissioners’ office and the Office of the Covered Bridge. Neighboring buildings contain the court center and the prosecutor’s office.
