Courts, treatment providers, and community partners that help veterans are invited to this fall’s Lean Forward Veterans Summit, a statewide conference dedicated to improving services and support for justice-involved veterans.

The Veterans Summit will take place on Nov. 19 in Columbus and is free to attend. This year’s theme, “Helping Through Healing,” captures the focus of a full day of sessions that will explore the power of connection, purpose, and community in helping veterans overcome adversity and build meaningful lives after military service. Through powerful personal stories, expert presentations, and collaborative discussions, attendees will gain practical insights into the challenges that veterans face and the innovative approaches making a difference in Ohio communities.

Since 2019, Supreme Court of Ohio Chief Justice Sharon L. Kennedy has led the Lean Forward initiative with the goal of advancing treatment for Ohio’s justice-involved veterans and serving those who have served. Chief Justice Kennedy will be a speaker at the summit as will retired Supreme Court Justice Evelyn Stratton. Both are longtime advocates for veteran-focused initiatives and specialized dockets for veterans in the courts.

Registration is now open for the Veterans Summit. Session highlights include community-based approaches to reduce isolation, address essential needs, and empower veterans through trusted relationships and shared purpose. Discussions will also explore effective tools such as connection with others, physical activity, and music.

Attending virtually is an option for those who cannot participate in person. Continuing legal education for attorneys and continuing education hours for social workers, counselors, and marriage therapists have been approved.
