Supreme Court of Ohio Seeks Volunteer Tour Guides for Historic Moyer Judicial Center
The Supreme Court of Ohio is pleased to announce the opening of its recruitment period for volunteer tour guides at the Thomas J. Moyer Ohio Judicial Center. This initiative supports the Court’s mission to educate the public about the judicial system and the architectural significance of the historic building, which welcomes nearly 15,000 visitors annually.
The Moyer Judicial Center, a landmark constructed in the 1930s, is celebrated for its Art Deco architecture and its Native American, Beaux-Arts, and Classical design elements. Volunteer tour guides lead scheduled groups through the first two floors of the facility, showcasing these artistic details and providing insight into the building’s history.
Tours also include the award-winning Visitor Education Center, which features a permanent exhibit on the history of Ohio’s court system and the most recent addition, the Women in Law exhibit. The exhibit joins other educational displays in the Visitor Education Center, including Careers in Law, Tuskegee Airmen: Portraits in Courage, and Justices in Uniform.
The Supreme Court is seeking enthusiastic individuals with a passion for history, civics, art, and architecture to join its volunteer program. Ideal candidates should be comfortable speaking to diverse groups, capable of leading 90-minute walking tours, and committed to presenting an impartial perspective on Court decisions. Volunteers are asked to dedicate approximately six hours per month during standard weekday hours. Candidates should be 18 years or older.
In addition to the rewarding experience of educating the public, volunteers will receive practical benefits, including reimbursement for downtown parking during scheduled shifts and an invitation to an annual recognition event honoring their contributions.
Community members interested in applying are encouraged to submit their applications directly to the Civic Education office.
