Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor traveled to Athens, Gallia, Lawrence, and Vinton counties last week to award court technology grants.

The grants are designed for courts to promote innovations, modernization, and efficiency.

The Court awarded a total of $2.9 million dollars in grants this year.

“I’m excited to award technology grants to these well-deserving courts around Ohio,” Chief Justice O’Connor said. “They will pay for much-needed technology improvements.  As in past years, technology grant funds will increase access to justice and remove barriers to the efficient and effective administration of justice.”

  • The first stop was Vinton County, where the chief justice delivered a $162,406 technology grant to pay for a case management update to transition the court of common pleas, general and domestic relations division away from a discontinued system, as well as integrate with law enforcement using a paperless system.
  • The second stop was Athens County, where the chief justice presented technology grants totaling $140,685 to pay for a new case management system that allows e-filing of documents and payments.
  • Next was Lawrence County, where the chief justice awarded technology grants totaling $79,090 to pay for software so the public can access court files.
  • The fourth stop was Gallia County, where the chief justice awarded technology grants totaling $83.538.18 to pay for an e-document management system, security equipment, and other court software upgrades.

In the past four years, the Supreme Court has awarded more than $10 million in grants. Projects have included case management upgrades, public online access to records, systems to file and pay fees, hardware upgrades, and a variety of other projects.
