Seats of Justice: Logan County

Next on the Supreme Court’s tour of Ohio courthouses is Logan County.

Established in 1818, its county seat is Bellefontaine. The area is known for having a little bit of everything, including agriculture and transportation.

Among its notable features, Logan County contains the first concrete street in the country, Court Avenue; the shortest road in the country, McKinley Street; and the highest point in the state.

The Logan County courthouse was built in 1870, five years after the end of the Civil War.
The courthouse was built in the heart of Bellefontaine and boasts stunning architecture. During a storm in 2012, the tower on the courthouse was damaged and later condemned. After six years of renovation and restoration, the building reopened to the public.
