While the natural beauty of Hocking Hills attracts most visitors to the southeastern Ohio county, its stunning county courthouse is a must-see destination in its own right.

Located in the county seat of Logan, the Hocking County Courthouse was built in 1923. It was designed by renowned architect Frank Packard, who helped plan several notable Ohio buildings, including Orton Hall, one of the most iconic structures on Ohio State University's campus. Among the courthouse's distinctive interior features is a large atrium illuminated by a massive skylight overhead.

Founded in 1818, Hocking County is home to a close-knit rural community. Its most popular attraction, Hocking Hills State Park, is known for its waterfalls, lush scenery, and hiking trails, including the famed Old Man's Cave.

For more than a year, the Supreme Court has been celebrating the United States’ 250th birthday – on July 4, 2026 – with “The Story of America,” which highlights significant historical events. The celebration of the semiquincentennial extends beyond digital content to also include events and displays at the Court. The initiative aims to spark curiosity, enhance civic literacy, and honor key moments in American and Ohio history.
