Delaware County is ever-evolving, but its historic courthouse reflects an enduring commitment to justice.

Located in the county seat of Delaware, the Historic Delaware County Courthouse was completed in 1869. Designed in the Italianate style, it was built in red brick and features beautiful stained-glass windows in its courtroom. A statue of Lady Justice crowns the building, serving as a powerful reminder of the court’s values. It was the county’s courthouse for 148 years until a new one opened in 2017.

Founded in 1808, Delaware County is known as the birthplace of President Rutherford B. Hayes. Today, it's one of Ohio’s fastest-growing counties and is home to numerous popular destinations, including the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium and Polaris Fashion Place.

For more than a year, the Supreme Court has been celebrating the United States’ 250th birthday – on July 4, 2026 – with “The Story of America,” which highlights significant historical events. The celebration of the semiquincentennial extends beyond digital content to also include events and displays at the Court. The initiative aims to spark curiosity, enhance civic literacy, and honor key moments in American and Ohio history.
